“And a mighty troop around,
With their trampling shook the ground,
Waving each a bloody sword,
For the service of their Lord.”: The Mask of Anarchy by Percy Bysshe Shelly.
Enough is enough, dear government! The toll of “secularism (in the holy nexus with Hefajat-e-Islam)” or “Spirit of Liberation War” cannot be so high! As a senior face book friend of Ms. Arani Semanti Khan, the emerging fire-brand in the new and independent style of student politics in Dhaka University campus, I get regular updates of her in social network. And despite being a mild supporter of the present government (after considering all the pros and cons) I cannot help being worried and nervous over recent situation in the DU Campus for last couple of days.
Soon after the DUCSU poll was over, DUCSU VP candidate and an ardent activist of “Road Safety Movement” Ms. Arani Semanti Khan became subject to intense “slut shaming” over social network just because she refused to shake hand with a leader from the ruling party’s student wing. She (Arani Semanti) secured 2600 votes in the poll after within a very brief arrival in her political career which is really praise worthy. And though the DUCSU election ended in mid-March, news of continuous attack on male and female activists in DU is unnerving. Personally I may or may not like the newly elected DU VP, but once he is elected, can I taunt him, threat him or attack him? It’s so pathetic particularly when the newly elected DU VP himself met with the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in a courtesy visit!
Ours is an independent, sovereign state and why should the female students in our very campus be beaten up and injured in a beastly way? A female student, be a supporter of Awami League, BNP, left organizations or even from Jamat-e-Islami, cannot be physically and sexually assaulted! That is a sheer disgrace to us, the former and present students of Dhaka University.
As a professional in a challenging sector like development, I cannot make enough time to even browse the newspapers thoroughly each and every day and cannot be very sure of every facts and incidents in the DU campus in last one week. But still the images or suppose the photograph of a student from Urdu Department with 32 stitches from his left eye to left ear are horrible to watch.
Dear government, we just plead you to keep chain on your student’s wing. Believe us…we are not against you! Just to save Banglades from becoming another Syria and Afghanistan, we do still support you. But the toll cannot be multiplying each and every day and it cannot be this much sky rocketing.
And also we urge upon Her Excellency PM Sheikh Hasina to take necessary steps for putting an end to all sorts of repression and atrocities in DU campus and protecting its female students.
